Mortal Shell 2 Walkthrough: All Six Regions in Order

How this walkthrough works

Mortal Shell 2 is an interconnected open world — there is no single forced path, but the community-documented standard route below matches the difficulty curve. Each section covers what the region asks of you and its mandatory encounters. Boss-by-boss notes live on the boss list; this page is the route spine.

1. Disciple’s Pass — the unannounced tutorial

The opening stretch teaches hardening, parrying and Shell possession without ever calling itself a tutorial. Take it slow: learn the harden rhythm, claim your first Shell, and activate every Beacon you pass. The region’s mandatory fight — Droeg, the Conquerer — is a skill check on everything the region taught.

2. Fainweald — the forest

A denser, ambush-heavy forest region ruled by Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods. The Gloombound Ritualist also stands between you and the region’s gate. Cleanse the gate when you win — the shortcut back matters later. Fainweald hides several Shell unlocks; check the Shell overview before spending upgrades.

3. Glutted Mire — slow down

The swamp punishes speed. Ambushes come from terrain, not just enemies, and heavy weapons swing slower in the muck than your muscle memory expects. Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist waits here — an arena fight where awareness beats aggression. The Mire is also collectible-dense: keys and fragments hide off the obvious paths.

4. Sanguine Caverns — the depths

An underground network with the route’s biggest optional payload: Tarstones, Ova and hidden Beacons reward thorough sweeps. Mandatory fights include the Tar Golem — launch week’s most-searched heavyweight — and the unsettling Nameless Captive. If a fight walls you, this is the region where a sidearm or Shell swap most often solves it.

5. Prisoner’s Domain — the fortress

The late-route difficulty spike. Isaac, The Scholar-Prince, the Hexapod and Lucian, the Thirsting Knight all stand in this stretch — three of the game’s hardest mandatory fights back to back. Your three committed Shells should be near fully upgraded here; if not, backtrack through your gate shortcuts and finish the job.

6. Outskirts of Mammon — the end

The approach to the endgame and the final mandatory gauntlet, ending with Vrago, Solikar Champion. Sweep remaining Beacons before the finale, then finish it. New Game+ begins the real completionist run — see how long to beat for what a full clear involves.

After the credits

  • New Game+ carries your Shells forward — the route above compresses dramatically on repeat.
  • Achievements: check the Slayer Seal warning before an assist-assisted run.
  • The remaining Shells: five of eight are still waiting — the tier list tells you which are worth the next commitment.
