Mortal Shell 2 is a souls-like action rpg by Cold Symmetry, available on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S. Released worldwide on August 20, 2026, it swaps the first game's compact gauntlet for an interconnected open world of six regions, where you possess any of 8 Shells and fight through 12 mandatory bosses with melee-only combat. FAQ
Is it Mortal Shell 2 or Mortal Shell II?
Both refer to the same game. The official Steam title is "Mortal Shell II", but the developer, press and most players write "Mortal Shell 2". This site uses the common spelling.
Do I need to play Mortal Shell 1 before Mortal Shell 2?
No. Mortal Shell 2 is a standalone sequel — the story is self-contained and the developer pitches it as a fresh entry point. Returning elements like the Shell Eredrim land harder if you know the first game, but nothing blocks new players.
